I've always contemplated setting up a blog, but I never really had a reason to voice my thoughts in this manner. Now, I thought this would be a great way to connect to my loved ones and supports as I prepare to go and depart on my greatest undertaking yet. I'll be leaving on the eighth of January from Tampa, Florida, to Santiago, Dominican Republic. What awaits me, I am not sure. I am both excited and trepidatious, but the unknown usually wields the greatest adventure. So, I am mostly excited.
All the prepartion, or lack thereof, has been weighing on me. I have very little time for language preparation and last minute details with the current training I am undergoing at the adolescent girl's home. So, I am hoping for a lot of grace when I arrive as far as adjusting to the culture. Maybe ignorance is bliss is this situation!
Continue to pray for me as I prepare to go. My personal prayer is that wherever I am, I will be all there (Thanks, Jim Elliot, for these wise words). So, for right now, I am focused on being the very best residential staff, a.k.a Dorm mom, to the girls. I look forward to the coming step (or leap), but I must continue to focus on the task at hand. This foreground is nesting ground for the seeds planted towards my own personal growth. Every lessons is a treasure for the coming season. I'm learning, growing, and waiting in excitement!
This is an adventure; that is, life has been an adventure. The day I came to know an awesome God, my life went from mundane attempts at survival to an all-out breath-taking journey. Everyday, I hope to grow a little less that God may grow to be so much more in me. I've learned that the secret to life is not encompassed in a series of successes but, instead, it is found in submission. So, I surrender to the calling of God, and, in return, I embark on the greatest journey of a lifetime.
Favorites
- Hobbies: I have dabbled in many different hobbies. However, my favorites include: reading, photography, travel, journaling, nature, and exercise. There is still so much more that I would love to incorporate into my life as a hobby and past-time.
- Music: There was a time in my childhood that I couldn't listen to anything but Classical music. Though I love it still, my taste varies ever so slightly. I love chill music that very simple; voice full of yearning and a guitar is all I need. I love intellectual music with complex lyrics that stimulates thought. For the most part, I just love music.
- Books: Classics, Historical novels, History, Contemporary Christian authors (Donald Miller, Shane Claibone, Rob Bell, Etc.), and much more . I'll read anything that's not ridiculous or a waste of time.
